Hurricane season for interior communities

As mentioned above, inland communities are at elevated risk during hurricane season as intense storms travel over land and dump heavy rain. 2024's Hurricane Helene is a prime example when multiple Appalachian communities suffered from historic flooding. Many of these areas were considered lower risk and did not have lender required flood insurance mandates.
